The weather is cool and comfortable in the High Country right now, but even colder temperatures will be here before you know it. It won’t be long before the fluffy white stuff is upon us, and that means ski season isn’t far behind.

Whether you’re new to the game or you’re a seasoned veteran on the slopes, it’s never too early to start racking up on the gear you’ll need before you get going.

Lucky for skiers of all skill levels, huge savings are on the way, too, as Appalachian Ski Mountain will host its annual preseason sale Friday, Oct. 14 through Sunday, Oct. 23.

“We’re looking forward to a super busy weekend with good weather and all the fall leaves,” said ASM’s Brenda Speckmann. “We’re hoping to have a good crowd and there’s a good vibe going for snow this year. I think a lot of people are excited about skiing and snowboarding this year.”

Enjoy discounts up to 70 percent off on skis, snowboards, helmets, children’s clothing and all of your favorite accessories spanning brands like Burton, 686, Mountain Hardwear, Spyder, Obermeyer, Nordica, Roxy, Salomon, K2, Atomic, Rossignol, Volcom, Never Summer, Ride, 4Fmt, Line, Northwave, Gnu, Libtech and more.

“We have packed the lobby of the ski area with the previous season’s ski and snowboarding clothes and equipment. Outerwear, base layer, hats, gloves, helmets, goggles — all clearance priced,” Speckmann said. “We have a great selection left from last winter.”

You can also buy and sell used equipment like skis, snowboards, boots and poles at the gear swap.

Whether you’re shopping for brand new gear or used equipment, your purchase will enter you into a raffle to win a 2016-17 season membership to ASM.

“We have some great deals. It’s a perfect time to outfit your family for the upcoming season,” said Speckmann. “Some children will be outgrowing their ski and snowboard equipment, so it’s a great time to check the sizes on your equipment and outfit your family. It’s also a great time for Christmas shopping.”

The offices will be open during the sale, so stop by while you’re there and pick up your season passes. Don’t forget to bring your skis and snowboards in for a fresh tune or wax before the slopes open next month.

Appalachian Ski Mountain’s projected opening date for the 2016-17 season is Friday, Nov. 18.
