SkyLine Membership Corporation announced recently that it will close its Seven Devils location and open a new SkyLine/SkyBest Customer Center operation in the old Village Laundry storefront on Wilson Drive in Boone.
The West Jefferson-based member-owned cooperative is opting for the more convenient location because of the easy access created by the nearby N.C. Highway 105 for its membership in the Sugar Grove, Vilas and Zionville communities, according to a statement released last week.
“With Boone as the commerce center of Watauga County, we feel this new location allows us to offer greater convenience and to be more accessible to all of our Watauga members and customers,” SkyLine CEO Jimmy Blevins said in the release.
The new storefront, which sits at 218 Wilson Drive behind Sagebrush and directly across from Appalachian New River Vet, has been home to Village Laundry and Drop-Off since 1996. The Laundromat closed its doors back in November, when the most recent owner was unable to find someone to take over the business and the deed for the property was transferred to SkyLine.
Renovations are underway at the Boone storefront, which will act as a full-service retail customer center with standard weekday business hours and a half-day schedule on Saturdays.
The Boone location will accept bill payments, feature a full-time staff on-hand to assist customers one-on-one for all of their telecommunications needs and serve as a payment/customer service stop for Carolina West Wireless customers.
SkyLine reports that the Wilson Drive location is expected to open by fall of 2016.
The existing customer center, which will eventually be replaced by the Boone store, is located at 157 Seven Devils Road in Banner Elk.
