Section of Blue Ridge Parkway Closing Until Jan. 1 to Undergo Critical Bridge Repairs Effective Immediately

Nov. 6, 2013. A small section of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Milepost 270 and Milepost 281 will be closed until Jan. 1 effective immediately. The closure is due to the need for critical repairs to a bridge that crosses over U.S. 421 in Boone.

A detour has been arranged from Milepost 270 at Phillips Gap north of the bridge to Milepost 281 at the old U.S. 421/U.S. 321 access point.

Repairs are being made to the retaining walls and abutments on the bridge and will take an estimated two months to complete, opening again Jan. 1, 2014 depending on the weather.

Visitors and commuters should be aware of closure gates and detour signs in the area.Blue Ridge Parkway managers regret any inconvenience this detour may cause to local businesses or park visitors.
