April 25, 2013. Sam Ratchford of Vidalia won the battle of Fire on the Rock in Blowing Rock on Wednesday, which featured Blind Squirrel Beer and wild ramps as the local, secret ingredients.

On Tuesday, April 30, Ratchford squares off against Adam Hayes of Asheville’s Red Stag Grill for a chance to be the overall Fire on the Rock winner.

Ratchford scored big with his second course – a marinated certified Angus beef petit filet and nut-brown battered 0nion rings with Belgian tripel braised collards, red wine pickled ramps and ramp oil, nut-brown demi and ramp cornbread.

Ratchford scored big against John Dean of Twigs with his second course – a marinated certified Angus beef petit filet and nut-brown battered 0nion rings with Belgian tripel braised collards, red wine pickled ramps and ramp oil, nut-brown demi and ramp cornbread.

During the final dessert course, Dean made a comeback with a german apple ramp cake, nut-brown salted caramel ice cream with a cashew brittle and pomegranate coulis. Yet, Dean’s highest scoring dish couldn’t overcome the weighted score of Ratchford’s three dishes.
