Potters of the Blue Ridge bring the inaugural Plates and Platters Show to Doe Ridge Pottery in downtown Boone, where it will be on display for the public to enjoy through Aug. 19.

The show opened with a reception in conjunction with downtown Boone’s First Friday Art Crawl on Aug. 5 and was part of the group’s mission to share resources and experiences and foster networking amongst potters in the area.

The juried two-week exhibit will be on display until Friday, Aug. 19 and all featured works will be available for purchase. Proceeds from each sale go directly to the artist and portions will be given to the nonprofit Potters of the Blue Ridge in support of its continued mission, which also includes:

  • Promoting the artists and craftsmen in northwestern North Carolina
  • Encouraging and educating those interested in ceramics
  • Encouraging a high standard of quality for members’ work

Doe Ridge Pottery owner Bob Meier hosts this exhibit in a show of support for the talented artists in the community.

“Bob has been in pottery in Watauga County for 40 years. He started at Appalachian State after leaving the military. He was a marine,” said Carol King, office manager and featured artist at Doe Ridge. “He came to school here, discovered pottery, fell in love with it and kept on doing it. The artists in this show are either his students, people who have worked with him or for him or have been in some way associated with him over the years.”

The Plates and Platters show features an array of functional and artistic works from 18 local potters.

“There’s a wide variety of different artists, different shapes and different styles,” King said. “It is a fun assortment of things.”

Swing by Doe Ridge and see for yourself the beautiful works that have been made right here in the High Country.

The gallery is located across the street from the Jones House in a downstairs space.

“Doe Ridge is also a retail gallery,” said King. “Some people are very familiar with it, but a lot of locals haven’t found it yet. We’d love for them to find it.”
