Pepper’s Restaurant & Bar is turning 40 years old on Monday, May 11, and the birthday celebration will feature live music, retro t-shirts, local craft beer specials and half price on two of the oldest subs created at Pepper’s.

“We are probably one of the first restaurants up here in the ‘70s and definitely one of the only ones still around from 1975,” Pepper’s General Manager John Pepper said. “So we are happy to throw a good party on Monday for everyone who supported us for the past 40 years and made this all possible.”

On the establishment’s birthday, Pepper said “an extra special tap beer lineup” will feature creations from local breweries and will be sold practically at cost.

Depending on how many patrons are enjoying the birthday celebration, the bar and possibly kitchen will remain open as long as folks are around. As of right now, operating hours for next Monday are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Two of the oldest sandwiches served by Pepper’s Restaurant – The Jean Lawson (turkey, marinated mushrooms, onions, green peppers and pepper cheese on a kaiser roll) and The Pepper Sub (salami, bologna, ham, turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, pepper cheese and a special sauce) – will be priced at $5 all day long on Monday. This is about half the cost the subs normally cost.

In addition to live music starting at 6 p.m., Pepper’s will have some free retro t-shirt giveaways that feature one of the original logos form the ‘70s.
