NC Vehicle Sales Up Nearly 12 Percent, April Best Month For Car and Truck Sales In Five To Six Years

May 14, 2013. Buoyed by strong demand in April, the sale of new cars and trucks in North Carolina are rebounding; 11.8 percent ahead of sales for the same period last year.  April produced record-setting sales, the best month for new car and truck sales since August 2007.

NCADAThe slight bump in consumer confidence combined with the surge in the stock market nudged consumers to North Carolina showrooms.  Additionally, the availability of low cost consumer credit, increased optimism in the workplace and an aging fleet of vehicles, have all contributed to the uptick in vehicle sales.

“Vehicle sales are returning to pre-recession levels,” stated Robert Glaser, President of the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association. “April was the best month since before the recession and we are optimistic that sales will continue to grow over the next few months.”

With increased car and truck sales come more jobs for North Carolina’s 575 new car and truck dealers.

“Our industry added 2,700 new jobs over the past 3 years and we are happy that franchised dealers are putting money back into the local communities,” commented Natalie Tindol, NCADA Chairman and owner of Tindol Ford Subaru in Gastonia.

“As an industry, dealerships employ nearly 30,000 people with employee payroll in excess of $1.45 billion across the State,” Tindol notes. “If the April numbers are any indication of the direction that we are headed, the North Carolina automobile and truck market should be in for a very strong year.”

The North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association (NCADA) is a trade association representing North Carolina’s franchised automobile, truck and RV dealers. Formed in 1935, today’s NCADA actively represents nearly 600 new car, truck and RV dealers.
