Sept. 16, 2014. Makoto’s Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar and The Rock Sports Bar and Grill will host the First Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Boone Golf Club to benefit Blowing Rock C.A.R.E.S. food pantry.
The tournament will be a captain’s choice format with four person teams. The tournament’s tee times will feature a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Prizes will be given out for first and second place teams overall, longest drive for both men and women and closest to the pin on par 3s.
The entry fee for the tournament is $250 per team of four. Registration deadline is the day of the tournament on Sept. 20. The entry fee includes green fees and cart fees along with lunch for all participants.
“We had so much fun after the Fork it Over event in June that we went and had a day of golf afterward,” said Gwen Dhing, owner of Makoto’s. “We had so much fun doing it that we decided to have a golf tournament. People have been very helpful and the golf club has been really helpful. We just want to have a great time and raise a little bit of money.”
Teams are already registering, so get in quick while you can!
“We are still taking teams,” Dhing said. We are limited to 36 teams and we already have 20 signed up. You can register in advance or the day of.”
Registration can be completed online here, or by printing and mailing a registration form along with payment. Registration can also be done in person to Gwen Dhing at Makoto’s. Checks should be made out to Makoto’s, and credit cards are also accepted.
Lunch for the day will be provided by Reinhart Foodservice and beer will be available with donations welcome.
“It will be a lot of fun and lunch is included in the registration fee,” Dhing said. “Rinehart Foods will be providing food and we will have barbeque by the Pedalin’ Pig.”
The inaugural golf tournament will benefit Blowing Rock C.A.R.E.S. food pantry, whose mission it is to help “provide basic non-perishable food to families and individuals in Watauga County, to supplement other country services and to help fill in the gap of availability parameters.” The charity is a 501 (c)3 organization that is run completely by volunteers.
Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
“Some of the prizes include golf for four at Linville Ridge plus lunch, Linville Ridge Spa package, golf hardware, four tickets to Charlotte Knights baseball game and overnight accommodations in Uptown Charlotte, a two night stay at Chetola and restaurant certificates to your favorite places in Boone,” Dhing said. “We will have something for everyone.”
