Nov. 15, 2012. The new local business, Up In Smoke, a hookah lounge and retailer located at 191 Howard St., will host a Hookah Appreciation Week open to the public that will include several different events and promotions, such as shisha tastings, information sessions regarding hookah and shisha, a raffle, an art competition, and ongoing promotions on memberships and retail.
For Hookah Appreciation Week, Up In Smoke will offer shisha tastings on ASU’s Sanford Mall Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A “hookah expert” from Up In Smoke will be in attendance to answer questions about anything from shisha to hookah maintenance. There will also be an art competition where artists use any medium to create original Up In Smoke posters, which will be voted on by Up In Smoke’s social media followers. The winner will be announced at the end of the week and will have their art displayed at the business, as well as receive membership and retail prizes from Up In Smoke. Anyone who participates in either of the shisha tastings, promotional events, or the art competition will be entered in a raffle to win a pumpkin hookah that Thursday.
“We look forward to interacting with the community while educating them on hookah and shisha,” said Devin Lattin, co-owner of Up In Smoke. “As alumni of ASU, we feel like a part of the university and want students to know we’re here.”
Up In Smoke opened this past July by co-owners Devin Lattin and Eric Lippert, both of whom recently graduated from ASU. Lattin and Lippert have been collaborating with a group of ASU Public Relations majors to create Hookah Appreciation Week. Having a student group help Up In Smoke will hopefully engage the student population and better educate them about hookah and shisha products.
