Jo-Ann McMurray Elected President of the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce; Succeeds Richard McGuire

Dec. 17, 2014. Jo-Ann McMurray will become the new president of the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce for 2015. She has been the chairperson for the chamber’s Fourth of July Parade and the Christmas in the Park events. Her success in collaborating with the business community for these events made her an excellent candidate for the position.

Jo-Ann has worked in small businesses of varying types throughout her career. She worked for 32 years in nursing, retiring from an administrative position in Greensboro. Also on her resume, she owned and operated a restaurant, owned and operated a baby furniture store and the currently manages Appalachian Law Center.

Stepping down from the position is four year president, Richard McGuire. While in office, Richard worked tirelessly to promote Banner Elk as a great place to live, work and visit.

Jo-Ann spoke to the board about Banner Elk’s upcoming projects: making a plan for the Historic Banner Elk Elementary School, bringing WIFI to town and continuing the effort to increase tourism to the community. She hopes to work with the chamber of commerce and the Banner Elk community to make Banner Elk a great place to be.
