Originally published Feb. 28, 2013. The Watauga County Tourism Development Authority is seeking qualified contractors to bid on projects pertaining to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail in Watauga County.
The TDA, in partnership with National Park Service, received grant funds to redevelop – improve and realign – portions of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail on the Boone Fork Trail in between Holloway Mountain Road and Price Park located on the Blue Ridge Parkway and to construct a trail-head facility on Holloway Mountain Road.
Two invitations to bid are listed on Watauga County’s website, however the TDA has hired the consulting firm Destination by Design Planning, LLC, to manage the bidding and construction oversight of the project.
Eric Woolridge, who is the contact for more information about the bids, was the director of tourism planning with the TDA for nearly four years before becoming a partner with Destination by Design Planning.
Project overseers are requesting proposals from members of the Association of Professional Trail Builders or trail contractors with extensive construction experience for the Mountains-to-Sea Trail Improvement and Realignment Project. The deadline for this bid is 3 p.m. Friday, March 15.
For the Holloway Mountain Road and Mountains-to-Sea Trail Head and Parking Area project, project managers are requesting bids from professional grading or building contractors. The deadline for this project is 3 p.m. Friday, March 8.
