A noticeable component for the Spring Group Exhibition is bold, bright and beautiful color. Andrew Braitman’s exhibition, “Approaching the Edge of Color” is ongoing through July 21. His abstracted landscapes with a changing on the season theme are rendered in his signature palette, along with an array of textures and intangible shapes.

Noted new gallery artist Connie Winters also has a unique sensitivity to color. Her vibrant impressionistic style paintings capture colorful scenes of vineyards, gardens and interiors in rich hues. She is a keen observer, particularly with the interplay of color and light. Another key ingredient is strong drawing skills which determine the architecture of her designs. Her paintings often reflect her travels through Europe and project her ongoing fascination with the countryside of Provence, France and Tuscany, Italy.

Winters’ unusual gift for color has allowed her to excel as a painter. She says, “I see so much color and I’m drawn to it. I think I see more than most people, while some would look as a road and see gray asphalt, I will see shades of lavender, blue and even red. It’s just the way it appears to me.”

The art of Connie Winters can be found in private and corporate collections, including John Randolph Hearst, Jr., Coca-Cola, The Duke Mansion in Charlotte and in the permanent collection of Erskine College, Presbyterian College and Wingate College.

The 31st Spring Group Exhibition continues through July 23 at Carlton Gallery where color in many art aspects can be experienced and enjoyed by all. The “Approaching the Edge of Color” exhibition of abstracted landscapes in oils and pastels by Andrew Braitman runs through July 21.

The gallery is located 10 miles south of Boone and 7 miles north of Linville on NC 105 in the Grandfather Mountain community. Workshops in painting, mixed media and expressive arts are held weekly by gallery artists who enjoy helping others experience profound creativity.
