The last weekend before Christmas marks the beginning of a packed calendar of holiday special events at the Green Park Inn, the heart of winter happenings in the High Country.
Nestled in the core of the Blowing Rock community, the inn has remained a center of culture and activity since it opened its doors for the first time in the summer of 1891. Now, after celebrating its 125th anniversary, this “Legendary Grand Dame” of the High Country” keeps that tradition alive, offering more ways than one for local folks to come together under its roof this holiday season.
Take the kids to the inn on Saturday morning, Dec. 17, between 7:30-10:30 a.m. to meet and greet with Santa Claus and enjoy a made-to-order chef made breakfast at the Chestnut Grille. Choose from a menu that will include dishes like egg white scramble, French toast and biscuits and gravy, then sit with Santa to share your holiday wish list.
“The reason the hotel has made it for so long is because of the community, so it’s really nice to be able to give back a little bit,” said Zack Toler, front desk associate at the Green Park Inn. “Come in, eat some good and meet with Santa. It’s just a good experience for everybody.”
Whether you come to eat or not, there is no charge to meet with Santa Claus. Breakfast prices vary based on menu items, and reservations are highly recommended if you plan to participate.
Other holiday programs include a Christmas Day Buffet and one of the High Country’s most sought after New Year’s Eve galas.
“The Green Park Inn has been the central location for Blowing Rock since it was built, and it’s the center of things to do,” Toler said. “On New Year’s Eve, there’s an air of excitement, relaxation and fun. There’s a seven-piece band playing swing style music, everybody’s dressed up and there’s a five-course dinner and a champagne toast at midnight. It’s a really nice location for people to have a good time.”
There’s another new year on the horizon, and the fun doesn’t stop on Dec. 31. The inn also offers special lodging packages in late January during the town of Blowing Rock’s annual Winterfest celebration.
