One of the High Country’s most treasured and recognizable landmarks will celebrate an incredible milestone this weekend, and you can get in on the party!
The Green Park Inn will kick off a summer-long celebration of its 125th anniversary with a community open house on Friday, June 24 from 5-6:30 p.m., giving locals and visitors alike a chance to tour and enjoy the beautifully historic grand manor hotel.
This event is open to the public and will precede a more formal gala that will recognize descendants of the original developers on Saturday night.
Constructed in the wake of the Civil War, the inn first opened for business in June of 1891 and quickly became a favorite for traveling statesmen, dignitaries and celebrities from up and down the East Coast who sought the cooler temperatures of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
In 2010, two brothers from New York purchased the inn, and they remain committed to preserving its place in history.
“The Green Park Inn has been a part of this community since before the town was a town. There was a community here that was known as Green Park before the town was incorporated,” said Lorry Mulhern, the inn’s general manager. “It is integral to the identity of Blowing Rock and the High Country, and this is a good opportunity to invite people to celebrate the milestone.”
Enjoy live piano music over complimentary beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres as you tour the inn’s lobby, library and veranda on this memorable occasion!
“We are the last of the Grand Manor hotels in western North Carolina. When you’re the last of something, you really stand up and take notice,” said Mulhern. “There aren’t many hotels that are 125 years old or more that have been continually operating.”
Limited spaces are available, so be sure to call the front desk if you plan to attend and get more information on the open house.
Stay tuned for more information on other celebratory events as the season continues.
