July 22, 2013. Grandfather Vineyard and Winery has expanded its free music series called Music in the Vineyard to every other Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

A perfect setting for live music, the terraced vineyard, which borders the banks of the Watauga River, is located at the base of Grandfather Mountain in Foscoe.

During the Music in the Vineyard series, Steve Tatum, owner of the vineyard, said the clientele that visits is a tad bit different. Whereas many folks that stop by will taste different wines, buy some bottles and leave, on the Sundays with live music, people will buy a bottle and sit out by the river or under the new outdoor pavilion and enjoy some wine, songs and the cool mountain air of the High Country.

“It’s a good thing,” Tatum said.

The outdoor pavilion was built this spring and features “very comfortable, upholstered furniture.” Tatum called the area a “nice outdoor space.” Also, Grandfather Vineyard and Winery tries to schedule weddings and gatherings to take place the same weekend as the Music in the Vineyard concerts, so folks who come to enjoy the music can sit underneath the 40- by-40-foot tent if it happens to be a rainy day.

Tatum encourages guests to bring their own picnic basket. Packaged cheese, crackers and sausage are available. Tatum also said that Grandfather Vineyard and Winery has more than a dozen new wines to choose from.

The hours for the Tasting Room through October are:

  • Wednesday to Saturday, 12 to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, 12 to 6 p.m.

The next concert, which features the Johnson Brothers, takes place Sunday, August 4. See the schedule below.
