May 31, 2012. Primo’s Pizza, Pasta & Subs, located at the Boone Mall, were welcomed as new members of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce in April. But that is not the only change for one of the area’s favorite restaurants, which, as of November 2011, is being run by…Mountain Girls.
Primo’s, originally opened in 2009, is under new ownership – Mother/Daughter team Myleia Slagle and Beverly Ward – a couple of “Mountain Girls” from right down the road in West Jefferson.
“I always had so much faith and confidence in my Mom to be able to run her own place,” said Beverly.
Myleia brings over 10 years of culinary experience, working as Executive Chef for Glendale Springs Inn in Ashe County, and 6th & Main in North Wilkesboro. She has won cooking competitions, been featured in “Our State Magazine,” and even cooked for celebrities.
“Even though I had never had my own restaurant before, I always treated every restaurant I ever worked in as if it was mine to take care of,” she said. “I always put all the skill, dedication and love I had into my work. So, I knew I could do that at Primo’s too.”
Beverly’s background also came in handy. After she graduated from Appalachian State with a Marketing degree, she worked for Castle Branch, a background screening company in Wilmington doing everything from marketing to customer service and sales, which gave her valuable business experience. She also worked in restaurants from age 16 to age 28 as a server, table busser, and yes, a dishwasher.
Myleia still can’t believe it.
“It is a dream come true,” she said. “All we wanted to do was to be able to make wonderful food, and work with great people and we did it. We are so grateful, happy and proud.”
Now that Beverly and Myleia are settled in, Primo’s is having a Grand Reopening Ceremony on Tuesday, June 5, from 4 – 7 p.m. There will be live music, free samples of menu items, and a new menu will be introduced.
Please stop by and welcome Beverly, Myleia and their staff at Primo’s to the Chamber.
