Jan. 17, 2014. It’s that time again! Girl Scouts Carolina Peaks to Piedmont (GSCP2P) began their yearly cookie sales in the High Country on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

The Girl Scouts of the USA have been selling cookies as part of their skill building program since 1915, and will celebrate 100 years of serving communities through delicious cookie sales next year.

“Proceeds from sales stay in the local area and community to fund troops and camps,” said GSCP2P Marketing Assistant Manager Sarah Robinson.

Also, be on the lookout for Girl Scouts canvassing your neighborhood during the week of Jan. 18-24 with their cookies and blossoming marketing skills.

“Goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics are promoted all throughout sales,” Robinson said.

In addition to the usual favorites, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Thanks-A-Lots, Lemonades and Shortbreads, the Scouts will be introducing two new cookies: Cranberry Citrus Crisps, a crispy whole grain cookie filled with citrusy cranberry bits, and a gluten-free chocolate chip shortbread cookie for the cookie lovers with special diets.

This year, the Girl Scouts have transitioned into a new sales approach, leaving behind the order forms and long waits for cookie shipments.

Instead scouts will have boxed cookies readily available to customers at the time of the sale. Every five boxes purchased will enter the customer’s name into a drawing to win a year’s supply (52 boxes) of free Girl Scout cookies.

Girl Scouts is proudly participating in a project aiming to collect 26,000 boxes of cookies and 1,000 letters of encouragement to send in care packages to be shipped to U.S. Military personnel serving both in the U.S and overseas. To support this project customers can purchase any box of cookies locally at the price of $4, or purchase a case of 12 boxes by calling 800-274-8491.

The Girl Scouts have gotten tech savvy and recently created a Cookie Mobile App for iPhone and Android phones. This app will help locate cookie sales and can be downloaded at www.girlscoutcookies.org.
