Gala ‘Blueprints and Bow Ties’ to Raise Funds, Friends for High Country’s Future Habitat Families

Sept. 18, 2013. Watauga County Habitat for Humanity is trying to grow its homesteading community in bona fide style with the second annual fundraising gala and live auction, Blueprints and Bow Ties, on Sept. 26, at 6 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Inn located at 711 Main Street in Blowing Rock.

Event features include cocktails and appetizers, music and dancing with the Lucky Strikes, plus a range of prizes and surprises. The auction features goods designed to help build habitat homes along with items to bid on and take home and will be highlighted by auctioneer Jessie Miller.

Event tickets are priced at $40 per person or $75 for couples prior to the event and $45 per person at the door. Tickets are limited and may be purchased in advance at the Watauga Habitat ReStore or online at wataugahabitat.org.

All funds raised from the event will support Habitat’s mission: to provide decent, affordable housing to Watauga families that otherwise would have a difficult time becoming homeowners.

“Clearly, the goal of Blueprints and Bow Ties is to raise money,” said Anne Wright, an attorney with Walker, DiVenere and Wright, who serves as the Board President and event volunteer for Watauga Habitat.

“Still, our focus extends beyond fundraising. This will be a fun event-a high-spirited and festive way to raise Habitat friends and supporters too.”

Alex Hooker agrees. Hooker, the Executive Director for Watauga Habitat, said a range of elements are needed to sustain the Habitat mission and requires more than financial support to build decent, affordable homes for those in need.

“Funds and in-kind donations are always critical. Yet we also need friends, volunteers and supporters who will join and sustain us in nurturing and mentoring our existing Habitat families, and who share the vision along with the work required to build and grow future Habitat families in GreenWood, our current community.

“Blueprints and Bow Ties encompasses all these elements, and is a great way for attendees to enjoy a festive evening and fantastic auction while learning more about Habitat’s important role in the HIgh Country,” Hooker added.

That said, the event committee is requesting auction items and recruiting corporate, business and private donor sponsors whose contributions will go a long way toward Habitat mission growth. Sponsorship levels are:

  • Bronze- $250
  • Siver – $500
  • Gold- $1,000
  • Platinum – $2,500
  • Premiere – $5,000
