First Friday Art Crawl: Downtown Boone Comes Alive With the September Edition of This Evening Tradition

Sept. 4, 2014. On Friday, Sept. 5, downtown Boone will be taken over by the First Friday Art Crawl. Like always, this month’s crawl will feature food, drinks and live music with work and exhibitions from local artists. And as usual, everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some Friday night fun. If you’ve never experienced First Friday Art Crawl, here is your chance to get in on what the locals already know! Head on down to downtown Boone and enjoy a Friday night out on the town. Here’s what is happening this month.

Where to Go:

Jones House Community Center
The Jones House Community and Cultural Center will host “Visions of Peace” sponsored by the Mountain Peacemakers, a “citizen-based, independent, co-rising of community members interested in peace.” The Visions of Peace show is a themed exhibition that interprets what peace may look like. Adjudicated by Adam Adcock, the show was open to residents of the High Country to showcase their vision of peace. The exhibition features artwork from the following artists: Lori Hill, Treva McLain, Teresa Cerda, Irmaly Brackin, Martin Church, Tia Oaster, Ty Brown, Alistair Burke, rob Rognstadt, Chris Baschon, Veronica Lozano-Toub, Shirley Hampton, Debbie Tallarico and Travis Donovan. A reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. In addition to the art show, The Jones House will also host a concert on the front porch featuring the Lazybirds at 5 p.m. and Sound Traveler at 6 p.m. The Jones House is located at 604 W. The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts is located at 423 West King St. in Boone. The Turchin Center will host an exhibition celebration from 6-10 p.m. in the galleries. The celebration will feature the opening of three new exhibitions as well as free refreshments and a cash bar. Artists featured in this celebration include Gordon Froud, Lori Esposito, Althea Murphy Priceand Travis Graves. Esposition will also be providing a live exhibition with her work from 7:30-8:30 p.m. where guests can observe her process. Art of Oil

Art of Oil, located at 819 W. King Street, will offer tastings of delicious, gourmet olive oils and balsamic vinegars. The tastings will be paired with complementing wines. Live music for the event will be provided by Cody Mitchell. 

Art Walk
Located at 611 West King Street, Art Walk will showcase potter Keith Martindale. Alongside the artwork, Art Walk will offer wine and refreshments to guests. For more information, contact Art Walk at 264-9998.  

Lucky Penny
Lucky Penny will be open from 6-9 for Art Crawl and will artist Lindsey Postlethwait from Mount Airey who works “predominately in the medium of ceramics but includes painting and fibers in her portfolio. Postlethwait completed a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Appalachian State University in 2006.  She is currently an Art Teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary School in Ashe County.  She has participated in shows at the Catherine Smith Gallery and the Turchin Center.”

Doe Ridge Pottery
Doe Ridge Pottery, located at 585 West King Street will showcase the work of master potter Bob Meier. A demonstration from Meier will be held from 6-9 p.m. For more information, contact Doe Ridge Pottery at 828-264-1127.

Old World Galleries
Old World Galleries, located at 697 W. King St will present an evening of “fun, food and fellowship.” Art by painter Jane Miller will be showcased alongside Old World Galleries’ stunning jewelry. For more information, contact Old World Galleries at 828-264-6559.

Anna Banana’s
Located at 641 West King Street, Anna Banana’s will offer refreshments from the new restaurant, The Local. As always, customers can dance for a 10-percent discount on merchandise! Claire Bilbao will offer face painting and Henna tattoos will be offered by Maria Perry. For more information, call 828-865-2000.
