First Friday Art Crawl: Downtown Boone Comes Alive With the March Edition of This Evening Tradition

March 6, 2014. Welcome back to the First Friday Art Crawl! On Friday, March7, downtown Boone will be taken over by the second First Friday Art Crawl of the year. Like always, this month’s crawl will feature food, drinks and live music with work and exhibitions from local artists. And as usual, everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some Friday night fun. If you’ve never experienced First Friday Art Crawl, here is your chance to get in on what the locals already know! Head on down to downtown Boone and enjoy a Friday night out on the town. Here’s what is happening this month. 

Where to Go:

Jones House Community Center

The Jones House Community Center, located at 604 West King Street, will host exhibits from photographer Rob Moore featured in the Mazie Jones Gallery along with exhibits featuring painter Patrick Richardson  and photographer Martin Church in the upstairs galleries. An artist reception will be held to celebrate the artists and their galleries from 6:30-8 p.m. 

Art Walk
Located at 611 West King Street, Art Walk will feature the March Madness sale along with refreshments for the evening. For more information, contact Art Walk at 264-9998.

Shear Shakti

Located at 693 West King Street in Boone, Shear Shakti will feature a silent auction for the children of Two Rivers Community School, where the children’s art will be auctioned off to raise funds from 6:30-9 p.m. For more information, call Shear Shakti at 828-865-7425.  

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts

Located at 423 West King Street, the Turchin Center will be featuring a celebration for the opening of three exhibitions including the 11th annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition, William Dunlap: Geography Matters, North Carolina Collectors and Behind the Scenes: Instructors of the Outreach Programs. While the official celebrations will take place during Art Crawl, formal receptions will not be held due to ASU’s spring break.  For more information, contact the Turchin Center at 828-262-3017.

Doe Ridge Pottery

Doe Ridge Pottery, located at 585 West King Street will be open for studio tours along with demonstrations from studio participants who will be actively working on pieces during the Art Crawl. For more information, contact Doe Ridge Pottery at 828-264-1127.

Art Mart Academy

Located at 683 West King Street, Art Mart will host a showcase of Life drawings with light refreshments for guests. For more information, call Art Mart at 828-264-3135. 

Art of Oil

Art of Oil, located 819 West King Street will feature live music, a wine tasting and refreshments from 6-8 p.m. As always, the shop will feature pieces from Rusic, it’s sister store in Blowing Rock. For more information, contact Art of Oil at 828-355-9313.  

Anna Banana’s 

Located at 641 West King Street, Anna Banana’s will offer refreshments from Char and Glug along with an art showcase featuring Jacob Stull.. As always, customers can dance for a 10-percent discount on merchandise! 

Char

Located at 179 Howard St.
Char will celebrate Art Crawl with a buy one get one special and a wine special as well. Char will be open until 2 a.m. with the restaurant closing at 10 p.m. Friday evening.
