First Friday Art Crawl: Downtown Boone Comes Alive With the December Edition of This Evening Tradition

Dec. 5, 2013. On Friday, Dec. 6, downtown Boone will be taken over by the final First Friday Art Crawl of the year. Like always, this month’s crawl will feature food, drinks and live music with work and exhibitions from local artists. And as usual, everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some Friday night fun. If you’ve never experienced First Friday Art Crawl, here is your chance to get in on what the locals already know! Head on down to downtown Boone and enjoy a Friday night out on the town. Here’s what is happening this month. Tis the season, folks!

Where to Go:

Gladiola Girls 
Staying open late until 8 p.m., Gladiola Girls, located at 549 West King Street, will host photographer Tommy White. The exhibition of his photographs will be highlighted by wine, holiday treats and a holiday raffle for a Grouse Ridge Tree Farms Christmas tree and a wreath.

Jones House Community Center

The Jones House Community Center, located at 604 West King Street, will be hosting a gallery reception from 6:30-8 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be served and guests will have an opportunity to meet the artists. 

Art Walk
Located at 611 West King Street, Art Walk will feature artist Tracie Haines’ line Kiwi Kreations which includes nature photography used to spell out words, jewelry and paintings. 

Shear Shakti

Located at 693 West King Street in Boone, Shear Shakti will host The Peel Literature & Arts Review online release party at 7 p.m. The event is BYOB with performances featuring writers and artists whose creative works are published in the online edition. Boone Bagelry’s new location on N.C. 105 and Stick Boy will be providing refreshments. 

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts

Located at 423 West King Street, the Turchin Center will be open until 8 p.m. tonight to showcase a collaborative exhibit between Carl Galie and Joseph Bathanti “Lost on the Road to Oblivion: The Vanishing Beauty of Coal Country.” 

Doe Ridge Pottery

Doe Ridge Pottery, located at 585 West King Street will showcase High Meadows Pottery artist Dottie Baker who will perform demonstrations of her technique and showcase her wares. 

Art Mart Academy

Located at 683 West King Street, Art Mart Academy will highlight artist Kim Abernathy this week for Art Crawl. 

Yosefa AntiquiTEA

Located at 161 Howard Street, the tea shop will host belly dancer Lisa Zahiya beginning at 8 p.m. Free wine will be offered to guests attending the showcase. 

Anna Banana’s 

Located at 641 West King Street, Anna Banana’s will offer refreshments from Char and Glug along with their special Christmas Sale. As always, customers can dance for a 10-percent discount!

Char

Located at 179 Howard St.
Char will celebrate Art Crawl with a buy one get one special and a wine special as well. Char will be open until 2 a.m. with the restaurant closing at 10 p.m. this evening.
