Also, the “Wearable Art and Jewelry Show” features exquisite hand-crafted jewelry selections by the gallery’s talented artisans, Don Haywood, Julie Salvetti, Laura Fly, Lisa Kent, Rebecca Hellman, Tana Acton and Channing Ayers just to name a few. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pendants and rings are among the collections in 14-18K gold and silver with high quality precious and semi-precious gemstones, pearls, crystals, fossils, sculptural wrapped wire and multi-hued beads.

jewelryDon Haywood is inspired by nature and natural materials for his creative designs in gemstones, fossils and crystals. He incorporates metal fusion, wire wrapping and beading techniques, along with the art of lapidary in his one-of-a-kind necklaces which are signed and dated by Haywood to enhance their originality.

Julie Salvetti was raised in the culturally rich community of New Orleans with its quirky sense of humor and creative style, and she says “it seems odd that I have chosen the serene and conventional pearl as a focus for my jewelry designs.” The only gem born in the body of a living organism, pearls have enchanted civilizations for centuries. Unlike other fine gemstones or diamonds, pearls need no cutting, polishing or faceting to show off their natural luster.

Salvetti’s necklaces, bracelets and earring designs are crafted from South Sea Black Pearls, South Sea White Pearls, Pink Pearls, Akoya Pearls and Chinese Freshwater Pearls completed with handmade clasps, using traditional metalwork techniques in 18K and 14K gold and sterling silver.

The sterling silver pendants, earrings and rings designed by Laura Fly which are accented with gemstones and pearls showcase her fine craftsmanship. Fly earned a bachelor of art degree in art concentrating on metalsmithing and jewelry design and she apprenticed for four years before opening her studio.

Lisa Kent handcrafts necklaces, bracelets and earrings in sterling silver, bronze and copper using direct techniques of piercing, chasing, applique and fabrication with semiprecious stones, pearls and glass to enhance each design. Her designs show the influences from places lived-from pteroglyphs carved in rocks in Oregon to patterns carved in seashells on the coast of Georgia.

The handcrafted silver necklaces and earrings of Rebecca Hellman feature gemstones of turquoise, aquamarine, green amethyst and blue topaz accented with quartz and pearls. Her designs on exhibit showcase her creativity and originality with some of her necklaces displaying a kinetic element.
