Nov. 12, 2012. Edge of the World will be hosting their annual snowboard party and storewide sale on Saturday, Nov. 17. This year the event will be themed the “End of the World” Snowboard Party and Sale. The events and the sales will be held at the shop located in downtown Banner Elk. Doors will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
“The snowboard party has always been a really fun time for us. It’s good for kids of all ages as well as parents and family,” said Jeff Johnson with Edge of the World. “We just try to make it fun and it’s something to get people excited about the snowboard season.”
Johnson said the shop always has a theme for the party, and given rumors of impending doom stemming from the Dec. 21 end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, they decided to theme the party along those lines.
“It’s also the biggest sales for this time in the season,” Johnson said. “For people who are getting ready for the season it’s a great event to come to and get their gear.”
The day’s events will include a skateboard contest, a no-talent contest, prizes, raffles, videos and live music. The skateboard contest will be free to enter and will be a jam session format. The crowd will decide winners of the Jam Session. Prizes will be awarded to the winners for different categories and divisions. The no-talent contest will be kept a secret until the day of the party so no one has any advantages over others. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of the no-talent contest as well. The raffles will consist of general prizes as well as an actual Snowboard. Raffle tickets will be available the day of the party and at Edge of the World the week prior to the party. Throughout the day we will be showing several of this years new videos on our many TV’s inside the shop. Local Banner Elk band, Aquamule, will be performing in the afternoon after the skateboard contest.
The snowboard party is something that Edge of the World has been doing for years. The purpose is to start the winter snowboard season off with a celebration. The party has always been a good way to get geared up and excited about the up and coming season. Edge of the World invites anyone young and old who likes to snowboard, ski, sled, tube, or simply enjoy the winter outdoors. The storewide sale will include discounts on all the new snowboards, outerwear, and winter accessories. There will also be a “Bargain Barn” section of the store, which will include some of the past year’s gear on sale at deep discounts.
