Jan. 29, 2014. Come sip, shop, eat and gather with friends and neighbors and celebrate Valentine’s Day with your favorite local merchants with Valentine’s Rocks in Blowing Rock. Enjoy special offers, one day sales and giveaways to kick off the spring season.

Stores will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 and the party will last all day long.

“There are around 20 participating stores in downtown Blowing Rock,” said Jess Wehrmann of Monkee’s who is coordinating the event.

“We are offering refreshments at each participating store with discounts, giveaways, gifts with purchase and more. This is our way of celebrating Valentine’s Day, highlighting the local shops and saying thank you to all of our customers.”

Participating merchants include Monkee’s, Cabin Fever Handtiques, Blowing Rock Gallery of Homes & Land, Art of Oil, Sister Act, Gregory Alan’s Unique Gifts and Home Furnishings, Doncaster Outlet, The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, J.W. Tweeds, Neaco, Almost Rodeo Drive, Bald Guy Brew, Art & Artifacts, Unwound, The Gilded Lily, Serves You Right!, Tax Marax and Gaines Kiker Silversmith and Goldsmith.

“We really wanted to give customers something to do in February,” Wehrmann said. “It’s a great way to get people up here and show people that Blowing Rock doesn’t just shut down in the winter. WinterFest does a great job of getting people up the mountain in January, but there aren’t many events in February. I think that the more events we have downtown, the more people will want to spend time here.”

After this year’s inaugural event, Wehrmann hopes to expand the event to an annual one to incorporate more of the retailers, hotels and restaurants downtown.

“Being active in your town is important,” said Wehrmann. “We want this to be a party so everyone can participate. We are looking forward to next year being even bigger and better than this year. I see it becoming an all inclusive event for us for years to come.”

So come on out to downtown Blowing Rock the day after Valentine’s Day for an extended weekend with your sweetheart or make it an outing with friends. Either way, you can’t go wrong with the Valentine’s Rocks in Blowing Rock Celebration.
