July 17, 2014. The Downtown Boone Development Association is currently accepting applications for the Façade Incentive Grant (FIG) Program through 5:00 pm on Friday, July 18th. The objective of the Façade Improvement Grant (FIG) Program is to greatly enhance the building façades in the downtown Boone Municipal Service District (MSD) in order to achieve a noticeable improvement in the overall appearance of downtown Boone.
Part of the DBDA’s mission is to improve the physical and economic appearance of downtown Boone and to promote historic preservation. The DBDA hopes that the FIG program will provide economic incentives to achieve the following goals; to promote storefront rehabilitation in the downtown area, preserve the unique structure of the historic character of downtown Boone, and to enhance the visual experience of visiting downtown Boone.
Examples of improvements to structures and storefronts in downtown Boone include masonry repair, brick or wall surface cleaning, removal of siding and exterior false façade and metal, wood, or deteriorating canopies, ironwork repair, and murals.
Business owners may apply for the FIG program with the permission of the property owner, and property owners are also encouraged to apply. Downtown Coordinator, Virginia Falck, states “the FIG program is an excellent opportunity for business and property owners who have thought or have plans to redo their storefronts. The DBDA hopes that the FIG program will provide these business owners with the extra incentive to begin work on their businesses’ exteriors.”
