The Dollar General development in Foscoe has begun.
A grading, erosion control and stormwater management permit was issued a few weeks ago and the N.C. Department of Transportation has approved work for N.C. 105 and Church Road accesses, according to John Spear, a planner with the Watauga County Planning & Inspections department.
The site, which is the empty lot beside Country Retreat Family Billiards, is currently being prepared, Spear said.
Driving into Foscoe from Boone, vehicles will access Dollar General from Church Road. Driving from the other direction – from Linville, Seven Devils or Banner Elk – motorists can turn right into to the store utilizing a new right turn lane.
“Full access onto NC 105 would have required both a dedicated right turn lane and a dedicated left turn lane. Church Road already has a dedicated left turn lane in very close proximity to the proposed Dollar General driveway location,” Spear said.
Spear also noted that the N.C. Department of Transportation doesn’t permit left turns from the Dollar General onto N.C. 105 because of the traffic volumes. Therefore, motorists who want to travel to, say, Tynecastle will have to exit the store’s parking lot via Church Road.
