Doc’s Rocks Hosts Raffle and More for Fund Raising Day Oct. 19 to Benefit Cancer Patient Emergency Fund

by Madison V. Fisler

Oct. 15, 2013. Have you ever seen a 345 carat emerald? Perhaps in a museum, or even in your dreams! Doc’s Rocks in Blowing Rock is offering raffle tickets for $20 each for a chance to win your very own gigantic, museum grade emerald, which, for your information, is as large as the palm of your hand.

929And the best part is that 100 percent of the proceeds from the raffle will go toward benefiting the Cancer Patient Emergency Fund, which provides financial assistance to patients of the Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center in need for things like gas for transportation to treatment, utilities, medication costs and household expenses.

According to Appalachian Regional Healthcare, the Cancer Patient Emergency Fund was started by The Park Foundation in 2007 and has since then donated over $328,000 to help cancer patients in the area.

The drawing for the raffle will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 during Doc’s Rocks Fundraising Day, with all proceeds from the store that day being donated to the Cancer Patient Emergency Fund. Last year, they raised more than $6,000, a goal that they hope to surpass this year.

From a release from the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Center:

Randy “Doc” McCoy, owner of Doc’s Rocks, has a vested interest in supporting the Cancer Center after he lost his sister to breast cancer in 2007.

“Unfortunately, the reality of this disease is that it hits too close to home for far too many people,” said McCoy. “The only way to fight cancer is to help support the families going through it and those who are working to find a cure.”

Rose quartz has been named the “breast cancer survivor gemstone,” so whenever a rose quartz is found, cut and set, Doc’s Rocks personally donates all of the proceeds toward cancer-fighting causes.

Come out to Doc’s Rocks on Oct. 19 for their official Fund Raising Day for the Cancer Patient Emergency Fund to support a worthy cause while having a great time with the family.
