Democrats Organize ‘Cash Mob’ to Benefit Local Businesses Saturday, July 28, at Village Hardware and Papa Joe’s

July, 17 2012. The Watauga County Democratic Party is organizing a “cash mob” that will visit two Blowing Rock businesses on Saturday, July 28. A “cash mob” is a way to encourage people to support small, local businesses by spending money as a group to give the business owners a little bit of economic stimulus.

The Democrats chose Village Hardware and Papa Joe’s to support even as the construction on US 321 through Blowing Rock made access to the businesses more difficult.

The “cash mob” will meet beginning at Village Hardware at 11 a.m. July 28, followed by lunch at Papa Joe’s. All are invited to participate, regardless of political persuasion.

“Cash mobs” are a part of a national trend to “buy local.” The first such organized cash mob occurred in August 2011 in Buffalo, NY, and has since spread to many other states.

“This is just another effort on our part to build community and help our neighbors,” said WataugaDems Volunteer Coordinator Marsha Walpole. “We hope to do these cash mobs on a regular basis all over Watauga County.”
