Aug. 26, 2013. Now in its second year, the Small Plate Crawl, hosted by Boone Independent Restaurants, will give folks of the High Country an opportunity to taste a little something from all of their favorite restaurants, and maybe a few they haven’t discovered yet.
Each day this week, we will be profiling a few of the restaurants that are participating, in order to give customers a chance to be introduced to their new favorite restaurants before their big date.
Casa Rustica in Boone has been family owned and operated since 1981. The recipes found at this popular Italian-American restaurant have been passed down for generations. Owner Rick Pedroni grew up in the restaurant himself before taking over for his parents and running it himself with his wife Lisa.
Located right off of N.C. 105 in Boone, Casa Rustica uses only the finest ingredients like free range beef in keeping with their dedication to provide only the best for their customers.
“We are using both new and existing items on our menu this year,” said Rick Pedroni, owner of Casa Rustica.
“Last year we had a great turnout and this year we hope it will be even better.”
Most of the menu was created by head chef Marietta DeBriere, who also created the menu for last year’s Small Plate Crawl.
“I wanted to do variations of Italian dishes with my own personal influences,” DeBriere said.
“We wanted to display our local status by using local ingredients in many of our dishes. I love the fact that I have the chance to create a unique and creative menu.”
This year’s Small Plate Crawl menu will feature many diverse options including baked penne bolognese, a mediterranean shrimp pot, ravioli florentine, arachinis and much more. The restaurant will also be offering a few specialty cocktails like a Cucumber Martini, an Appalachian Gold Martini and an Italian Sparkler.
Perfect for college kids on a budget, savvy restaurant lovers who want a little taste of everything, or someone just looking for an excuse to hit all the best spots in town, the Small Plate Crawl has something for everyone.
The event will go on rain or shine, so come hungry and remember to bring your passport. To be eligible for the prize drawings, you must have 5 completed passport validations to show that you have been to five restaurants during the crawl. Including a restaurant outside of Boone and Blowing Rock in your count of five completed restaurants will double your chances of winning a prize in the drawing.
New participating restaurants will be added up until the week of the crawl, so keep checking back to see if your favorite has been added, or maybe a restaurant that you’ve always wanted to sink your teeth into.
