Sept. 27, 2012. This fall, Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock is holding several special events for both adults and children. The events range from date nights for couples to health-conscious fitness and cooking classes.
Every Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Timberlake’s Restaurant at Chetola hosts “Steak on the Lake” night on the Timberlake’s patio. The evening features a New York Strip steak grilled to perfection, a side salad and house potatoes for $24. In addition to the food, there is also live entertainment during the event.
For the couples with small children, Chetola and Timberlake’s is helping you out. On the first Friday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m., “First Friday Date Night” takes place and up to two children per couple age 3-12 will be watched on site free of charge. Each additional child past two and children ages one and two are $5 per child. A children’s dinner will also be served, if desired by parents, at 6:30 p.m. for $5 with a choice of either pizza or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Additional childcare is available from 8 to 10 p.m.
On the healthier side of things, according to Allison West, Chetola marketing coordinator, two of the biggest events coming up include the RDU Tennis afterschool program for children aged 4-12 on Mondays and Wednesdays through Oct. 17, and the “Fall into Food” healthy cooking class Oct. 21. The tennis clinic runs from 2:45 to 5:30 p.m. and includes one hour of tennis, one hour of pool play and a healthy snack provided at a charge of $25 per child. The cooking class will focus on whole foods and plant-based cooking, and is facilitated by Catherine Scantlin and Caroline Stahlschmidt. “Early-bird” registration is $50, with the price for admission going up to $65 after Oct. 18.
There is also a parent-child yoga class on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 3 to 4 p.m. at a cost of $18 for “early birds” and $25 after Oct. 18.
There is a wide variety of fitness classes, including yoga, hikes and more, taking place through Oct. 31 (see chart below for days and times).
