Chamber’s Business After Hours at Modern Automotive, June 10 Declared Dan Meyer Day in Boone

It was a great Cinco de Mayo night last night at Modern Toyota Subaru with over 150 people in attendance. Modern sure knows how to throw a party and what a place to have it: its new, state-of-the-art facility.  Modern was the host of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours! Modern had great Mexican food, drinks provided by Lost Province and a fun photo booth.

Special guest and Mayor Rennie Brantz made a surprise announcement proclaiming Friday, June 10 as Dan Meyer Day.  The Boone Area Chamber will be holding an open house all day for the community to come and honor Dan and his many years of service.

We encourage everyone to stop in and visit the Chamber on June 10 and enjoy food and refreshments throughout the day. Mayor Brantz also announced that Dan will be the Grand Marshall of the annual Fourth of July parade in downtown Boone.

One of the biggest highlights of last night’s event was a song written about and for Dan Meyer. It portrays Dan, his family and his life sung to the tune of the title song from the musical MAME.  Hear for yourself!!  “DAN” was written and sung by Keith Martin of Appalachian State University.

Keith Martin is the John M. Blackburn Distinguished Professor of Theatre and a very talented friend! Barbara Armstrong, Director of Operations with the Boone Area Chamber accompanied Keith as well as Aaron Ames on the keyboard.. see for yourself! (lyrics attached)

JUNE 10 AS DAN MEYER DAY PROCLAMATION 

WHEREAS, Dan Meyer has announced his pending retirement as President of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce after 12 years (2004-2016), and

WHEREAS, Dan Meyer developed numerous Chamber educational and service programs benefitting local businesses and the community, including Program Partners, Watauga Leadership Challenge, Young Professionals, ShopLOCAL Campaign, everGREEN Initiatives, Boone My Hometown, and Hand of Hospitality, and

WHEREAS, Dan Meyer was selected the 2015 North Carolina Chamber Executive of the Year by the Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, and

WHEREAS, Dan Meyer has represented the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce on numerous advisory boards, including the Watauga County Economic Development Commission, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, Blue Ridge Electric Community Advisory Council, NC State University Engagement Advisory Board, NC Agricultural Extension Advisory Board, and many others, and

Whereas, Dan Meyer served as the award winning Executive Director of Appalachian Brian Estates for 15 years, and

WHEREAS, Dan Meyer offered outstanding courses in business and Freshman Seminar at Appalachian State University over many years, and

WHEREAS, Dan Meyer has participated actively in the life of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church and the Boone community,

NOW, THEREFORE, I Rennie Brantz, Mayor of Boone, do proclaim Friday, June 10, 2016, Dan Meyer Day in the Town of Boone in order to honor the tireless work and numerous contributions of this outstanding community leader.
