Celebrate Artists at Alta Vista Gallery Each Month Beginning with Joan Sporn June 25

By Jessica Isaacs | jessica@highcountrypress.com

There’s always something to celebrate at Alta Vista Gallery!

This summer, the gallery has a packed schedule of events and an impressive lineup of featured artists for you to enjoy.

“The gallery really is transformed every month. You walk in the front door and it looks like a whole different gallery because the artists are so diverse,” said gallery owner Maria Hyde. “If you walk in now during Joan Sporn’s show, it looks a certain way, very bright and colorful; but if you walk in next month it will look like a totally different place, because the next artist has a totally different palette and taste. That’s pretty fun, because you can visit repeatedly and still see new things.”

The work of Linville Ridge resident Joan Sporn is featured in a new show of contemporary impressionist oils entitled “An Emotional Journey” at the gallery, which is located on Broadstone Road in Valle Crucis. Stop by to meet the artist at the gallery’s next reception on June 25.

Sporn’s show will hang through mid-July and will feature 20 new oils by this best-selling Alta Vista artist. Pieces on exhibit feature a variety of sizes and subjects, including trees, flowers, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, forests, mountain scenes and musicians. Refreshments will be served between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the reception on June 25, where you’ll have an opportunity to view her work at chat with Sporn about her creative process. The reception will be one of several stops on Avery County’s “Tour de Art” that day.

Housed in a charming, historic brick farmhouse in Valle Crucis with a front porch lined with purple rocking chairs, the gallery displays hundreds of paintings and other artwork. Featuring more than 100 artists in all media, Alta Vista specializes in mountain landscapes.

Now in its 26th year of business in the High Country, the gallery showcases work in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, limited edition prints, sculptures, stained glass, art tiles and Mangum Pottery.

The gallery owners invite you to join them for the Joan Sporn reception, as well as the other monthly receptions that will follow it this summer. Continue reading to check out the upcoming schedule.
