Each artist’s unique interpretation of the area’s natural environment is captured on canvas with colors, shadows and textures. They render paintings which capture their vision of scenic vistas and strategic places that will stand the test of time.

Egi Antonaccio is a versatile painter who uses brushes for his traditional landscapes and palette knives for his looser, more contemporary works. Born in Castelluccio, Italy, Antonaccio received his formal art education at the Institute of Fine Art in Castrovillain, Italy and the Academy of Fine Arts with Honors in Florence, Italy. Antonaccio also had the opportunity to study with American Master Artist Edward Szmyd in Blowing Rock.

Antonaccio has lived in North Carolina since 1981 and enjoys painting mountain scenery with its seasonal changes. A blessing of natural talent enables Antonaccio’s landscapes of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains to capture his artistic vision and allows the viewer to savor that moment in time also. He also has the inherent ability to paint the alluring light of nature as a focal in many of his paintings, as he balances the fluidity of the paints with the impressionistic realism he captures on canvas.

Contemporary landscape paintings by Antonaccio are rendered with palette knives using bright, strong acrylics with courageous strokes. Waterfalls, old barns, flora and fauna are painted with his bold palette using heavy texture which appears abstracted until viewed from a distance, then the subject matter is clearly defined.

Kevin Beck
Kevin Beck

Kevin Beck is known for his paintings that project colors, shadows and the atmosphere of the landscape as he paints en plein air. He begins his paintings on location, even when snow is on the ground, to get the feel of the painting. Beck’s landscape paintings are rendered in both oils and pastels.

He is also praised for his teaching abilty, as he is methodical, articulate and very thorough in showing the necessary steps and the composition needed to render a good painting. His October 15-17 workshop at the gallery will enable one to learn or refresh the techniques required to paint a beautiful landscape.

The art of Kevin Beck is highly collected and can be found in numerous corporate and private collections. His work can be found on posters, greeting cards, t-shirts, and a set decoration for the movie “28 Days” with Sandra Bullock.

All are invited to visit Carlton Gallery on Saturday, Aug. 24 to view the “Savoring Moments in Time” exhibition by Egi Antonaccio and Kevin Beck which continues through Sept. 24. The 31 Anniversary Mid-Summer Group Exhibition also continues through Sept. 24 and offers one an afternoon of viewing wonderful art in various mediums, along with experiencing community spirit and enjoying light refreshments.
