Boone Mall Location Among JCPenney’s Stores Closing in the Next Few Months

By Jesse Wood

The J.C Penney Company has announced that it is closing 138 stores through the next few months. The Boone Mall store is among those locations shuttering its doors, the company announced today.

Late last month, the company announced that it would be “implementing a plan to optimize its national retail operations as a part of the company’s successful return to profitability.”

The closures will “align the company’s physical store footprint and omnichannel network,” the company said in a recent release.

The company said that 5,000 jobs would be impacted by the store closures and two distribution facility closures. Most of the stores will close in June and begin the “liquidation process” on April 17.

A manager at the local store wouldn’t provide comment and referenced corporate media relations, which offered the following statement:

“Regarding the Boone store, approximately 30 employees are impacted and it’s scheduled to close later this year on June 18. Taking actions that directly impact our valued associates and loyal customers is difficult, but we’ll go to great lengths to relocate esteemed leaders, while providing outplacement support services for those eligible associates who will be leaving the Company. Eligible associates who do not remain with the Company will receive separation benefits, including an on-site career training class. The class will assist associates in writing resumes, filling out applications, answering interview questions and more.”
