Want to know more about what local entrepreneurs have to offer? Don’t miss the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual business expo at the Boone Mall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.
More than 80 vendors will be represented at this year’s “telling and selling” expo, sharing their stories with the public and introducing their work to the community. Some will offer samplings and demonstrations, while others will provide reading material to help their neighbors understand their mission and their values. Some items will be available for purchase, as well.
Chamber President and CEO Dan Meyer said the annual expo has been bringing business owners together for more than 25 years. He said the primary goal of the expo is much like the primary goal of the chamber — to showcase local businesses.
“It gives these individuals an opportunity to network,” Meyers said. “Every business has goods or services, but every business needs goods and services, so it’s an opportunity for them to discover what other businesses have to offer that they might be able to take advantage of.”
This longstanding tradition allows the community to learn more about those businesses, too.
“It will give the public an opportunity to realize more goods and services are available locally than they thought. We believe in shopping local, dining local and giving local,” Meyers said. “Sometimes people walk through and say, ‘Wow, I didn’t know that was available here, I thought I had to go somewhere else.’ It’s a chance for them to recognize the breadth and variety of what’s available here locally.”
Meyer said the annual event has grown significantly in the past three years — a welcomed change that he takes as a sign that local economy is headed in the right direction.
“That’s an indicator, I think, that business is improving,” Meyer said. “We’re kind of getting our feet back under us and moving ahead.”
Meyers noted that the chamber is indebted to the Boone Mall, which serves as a great host for the event.
“They kind of are the signature sponsor by allowing us to have it there,” he said. “They’re very gracious and accommodating, so we really appreciate the Boone Mall for allowing us to set this up.”
