Blowing Rock’s Ensemble Stage Announces the Summer 2013 Professional Series Stage Schedule

May 8, 2013. Ensemble Stage in Blowing Rock has announced the summer 2013 stage schedule.

Ensemble Stage hosts performances at the Blowing Rock School Auditorium located at 160 Sunset Drive. Their summer season is their only professional play series, and the only time that they do full length stage plays. 

estagelogoblkIt all begins with Searching for Eden, by James Still, which will be presented from June 15 through June 23. “This quirky comedy follows Adam and Eve through the ages as they go from humble beginnings in the Garden of Eden to the modern day, commenting on marriage, love and progress,” said Gary Smith, artistic director of Ensemble Stage. Searching for Eden also received a sponsorship grant from the Watauga County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council. 

The second show in the lineup is Mindgames by Anthony Horowitz. On stage from July 6 through July 14, this psychological thriller will make you question your own sanity, Smith said. This show is described as very “Twilight Zone-esque”. It is very intense, suspenseful, and definitely something that the audience won’t soon forget.

Up next is A Bench in the Sun by Ron Clark. This comedy follows the goings-on at a retirement home after an interesting new resident is introduced. “A Bench in the Sun is quite a funny and neat look at the retired life,” Smith said. 

Finally, Bedside Manners by Derek Benfield will wrap up the summer season. This comedy follows a man and his adventures in his sister’s country inn after he reluctantly agrees to watch over it. This one is not to be missed. 

“There is a really good cast all around for all of our shows,” Smith said. “Each year we try to get up production values. This year it is going to be a season that people wont soon forget and will be hard to top.”

Single show tickets will be available for purchase starting May 25. These tickets cost $19 for adults, $17 for seniors, students or military personnel and $10 for kids 16 and younger. There is also an option to purchase summer season tickets for all four shows, which is $68 for adults and $60 for seniors, students or military personnel. Advance ticket sales are encouraged, and the box office can be reached at 828-414-1844. 

For advance ticket sales, Ensemble Stage accepts checks, MasterCard, VISA, American Express and Discover. or day-of ticket sales, the box office will be open at the event location one hour prior to performances for will call and walk up sales with payment by cash or check only.

Ensemble Stage was created out of necessity and a love of the performing arts and desire to share that love with the High Country community. It was created to provide the community with affordable access to the performing arts.
