March 13, 2014. The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce held the first monthly meeting “afterhours” of 2014 on Wednesday, March 12 in Wily’s Bar and Grill at Lees-McRae College. The February afterhours event was cancelled due to bad weather.
The event was hosted by Suzette Fronk of Lees-McRae College and Pastor Dan Brubaker from the Banner Elk United Methodist Church. Flat Top Brewing Company shared some of its newest brews with the chamber. Owner Nathan Paris announced the brewery will have a number of “soft openings” to test their system and officially open on or before May 1.
The afterhours events are a place where local businesses share their latest news and inform everyone of upcoming events. Its also a nice way to meet all the local businesses and share some down time.
Mayor Brenda Lyerly announced an event is being planned for National Mayor’s Day of Recognition. Jo-Ann McMurray announced she is planning an Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the town and the TDA. It will be held on April 12.
Jim and Ann Swinkola were welcomed as the chambers newest members. Ann Swinkola invited everyone to koin the Kiwanis Club for a day of community service. April 12 at 9 a.m. they will be cleaning up the Banner Elk Graveyard.
Richard McGuire, chamber president, told the chamber that his company Eagle Ridge Builders was featured on a television show.
