Jan. 9, 2013. On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce held their annual dinner at Stonewall’s Restaurant in Banner Elk.

“Having the dinner at Stonewalls has been a tradition that we have kept for more than ten years,” said Liz Lanham of the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce.

“It is an annual gathering of all of the members in the beginning of the year to touch up on the last year and welcome in the new one.”

Though the Chamber did not hand out any awards at the dinner, approximately 80 members in attendance dined on some of the delicious offerings of the Banner Elk institution while listening to Chamber President Richard McGuire and Chamber Vice President Deka Tate speak.

Deka Tate, volunteer coordinator and Vice President of the Chamber, spoke to encourage chamber members to become more actively involved in the Chamber of Commerce.

Always open to new ideas, Tate invited members to contact the board with ideas and encouraged members to become a board member of the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce themselves.

Chamber President Richard McGuire recapped the happenings of the past year in the Chamber of Commerce, including mention of the close to one million emails sent out in an effort to bring more visitors to Banner Elk in an initiative titled “Come Visit and Stay Forever.”

Also mentioned was the launch of the new Chamber website in May of 2013. The website included many updates, among which is an updated Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce member directory.

The event concluded around 8 p.m. as members left Stonewalls with full bellies and hopes for a spectacular 2014.
