Nov. 2, 2012. The local ski resorts, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Beech Mountain Resort and Sugar Mountain Resort, are currently into the process of taking applications and doing their seasonal hiring in preparation for the upcoming winter season.
The resorts are all offering both full-time and part-time jobs and there are positions available in a wide array of areas — anything from lift attendants to shop clerks to food and beverage and more.
“We have everthing from food and beverage to retail to lift operators,” said Talia Freeman with Beech Mountain Resort. “We also have sales and marketing and it’s a lot of positions to fill. We’re just trying to get the word out that we do have positions open and it’s a nice positive work environment. You also get a season pass if you work at Beech.”
Freeman said things have been a little slower this year than usual in terms of people coming in and applying for jobs. Beech Mountain Resort typically staffs anywhere from 200 to 250 positions in the winter and Freeman said there were at least 100 positions still available.
At Sugar Mountain, a job fair was recently held on Oct. 27.
“We’re still taking applications and we’re gettinga lot of people coming in and filling out applications,” said Kim Jochl with Sugar Mountain Resort.
She said that they were continuing to slowly hire people as needed and that it would depend on how much and how fast things picked up as to how many people they would need to hire as it gets closer to winter.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is also in the process of doing their winter hiring. General Manager Brad Moretz said they have been taking applications for some time now and that there were positions available in a wide range of areas at the mountain.
“We bring on probably 100-120 new people each season,” Moretz said. “We do that with full-time and part-time positions.”
He said they were probably over halfway through their winter hiring, but that they would be continuing to add staff.
