June 17, 2013. Carlton Gallery, continuing its 31st Spring Group Exhibition, is exhibiting new works by Andrew Braitman, an artist of national stature, with an Artist Reception planned for Saturday, June 22, from 2-5 p.m. This reception affords an opportunity for Braitman to meet visitors and discuss his work. Braitman’s exhibition, “Approaching the Edge of Color,” is a feature for the Avery Tour d’Art- a coalition of galleries and artists’ studios which began its 5th season of showcasing fine art on the fourth Saturday from June through October. Hours for the Avery Tour d’Art are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Andrew Braitman has exhibited his paintings at Carlton Gallery for over 20 years, and his abstract landscapes rendered in his signature color combinations are in many private and public collections. He has exhibited in galleries, one-man and group shows in Santa Fe, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington DC, and Milburn, NJ; also in Noorbeck, Holland, Rio de Janiero and Curitiba, Brazil. In addition to teaching at his art school, Braitman is a guest lecturer, judges art competitions, participates in public art projects and will conduct workshops at Carlton Gallery on June 25-27, July 9-11 and August 20-22.
A brilliant use of color is a prominent component of Braitman’s paintings. They are almost abstract except for a few strokes that hint at a familiar image. Favorite subject matter for him covers rural scenes of forests, streams and barns to cottages and stone bridges from is European travels. His “Approaching the Edge of Color” exhibition also features a series of paintings-Spring, Summer, Winter, Warmth and Birches at the Water’s Edge rendered in his beautiful color palette, along with a variety of textures and conceptual shapes. In addition to his oils on canvas, this exhibit also contains some paintings in pastels which express his talent in composition and fondness for color.
The gallery has recently expanded its exhibition space which is reached by stairs in the lower featured artists’ gallery. This new space features paintings, glass, pottery and installation art works and connects to the Showroom/Studio of Toni Carlton. It is a nice transition from traditional gallery space to a creative environment reflecting peace and oneness and is part of the tour.
The 31st Spring Group Exhibition at Carlton Gallery continues through July 23 and showcases contemporary paintings in oils, acrylics, pastels, water color and mixed media. This exhibition also offers exceptional works in glass, wood, clay, sculpture, wearable fiber art and fine jewelry by local, regional and national artists. The gallery represents over 200 artists and hosts exhibitions featuring recognized and emerging artists.
