Dec. 17, 2014. Continuing the philanthropy part of its three-pronged mission – community, sustainability and philanthropy – Appalachian Mountain Brewery (AMB) is hosting its “Winter Warmer Drive” on Saturday, Dec. 20, along with Blood Sweat and Gears (BSG), an organization that now sponsors three charity bike rides in the High Country each year.

From 2 p.m. until closing time at 11 p.m., AMB and BSG invite you to bring in new or gently used coats, blankets, gloves, hats, shoes and other winter apparel to be distributed to local schools and the Hunger & Health Coalition. A flyer announcing the event states, “Helping our community stay warm one revolution at a time.”

That phrase is a play off of Blood Sweat and Gears’ motto: “Helping our community one revolution at a time.” Since it’s first Blood Sweat and Gears ride in the late ‘90s, the organization has raised tens of thousands of dollars to help many organizations that are helping those in need from local fire departments and the Western Youth Network to the Watauga chapter of the American Red Cross and Quiet Givers – to just name a few examples.

Ever since opening its brewery operation on Valentine’s Day in 2013, Appalachian Mountain Brewery has been steadfast at helping the community.

Along with hosting numerous events to help raise funds for individuals in need and organizations working towards a worthy cause, AMB oversees a number of programs including Pints for Nonprofits, where a portion of proceeds from every pint sold in the tasting room goes toward local charities and nonprofits, and “We Can So You Can” initiative, where proceeds of every 16-ounce can helps to revitalize the environment throughout the Appalachian Mountains.

Sunday’s event also includes live music by the Jacob Johnson Band and an “Ugly Sweater Party” with prizes for the ugliest, most creative or beer-related sweater.

Appalachian Mountain Brewery is located at 163 Boone Creek Drive in Boone. Reach AMB at 828-263-1111.
