March 5, 2014. For the past month or so, owners of the downtown market coming to Depot Street in April held a contest for the public to help name the market. Well, the name game is over, and “Benchmark Provisions” was selected.
One creative person won a $200 gift certificate to the market when it opens. The name is based on the fact that there is a “benchmark geologic survey just to the left of the entrance door,” Jeff Collins, co-owner of the enterprise, said.
“And it’s a great durable name,” Collins said.
Even though, the contest is over, Collins said they are still accepting ideas on what to stock and sell in the provisions market. Those ideas can be submitted on the market’s Facebook page or website.
The market is located on the bottom floor of the Shoppes at Farmers Hardware and will have access points off of Depot Street and through the above Shoppes at Farmers Hardware.
