July 11, 2013. Each year, the Daniel Boone Native Gardens in Boone hosts a myriad of fantastic events and activities for the community. This summer, the Gardens are augmenting their usual selection of events with a 50th Birthday Event Celebration on July 21 to celebrate 50 years of beauty in this small community.
The Birthday Celebration will take place at the Gardens from 2-4 p.m. The event will feature a reunion of couples married in the Gardens over the years, as well as birthday cake and lemonade for all in attendance sponsored by Stick Boy Bread Co., Harris Teeter, Lowes-Grocery and Wal-Mart.
But the 50th Birthday Celebration isn’t the only thing to get excited about in the Gardens this summer.
The third annual Evening in the Gardens event, held at the Daniel Boone Native Gardens in Boone, is scheduled for Aug 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“We host this event to offer friends of the Gardens and interested people in the community and statewide an opportunity to experience the Gardens and further develop our mission of preservation and education about native plants, creating an environment within the town of Boone that connects visitors to the natural world,” said Dianna Dougherty, Evening in the Gardens Chair.
This event is not only a fundraiser for the Gardens, but also acts as an exciting community and cultural experience.
During this event, guests can enjoy live art demonstrations influenced by the beautiful surroundings in the gardens, where local artists will create their native gardens inspired art in real time. These art pieces will be placed for purchase at a silent auction.
Food and drinks are included with the ticket price, as well as music and fellowship to enhance the experience. Informal tours of the gardens will also be available for guests to enjoy.
Tickets for the Evening in the Gardens are $20 per person which includes food, drink, musical entertainment and the opportunity to participate in the silent auction for the art created in the gardens. The entire event is family friendly and open to the public, however, no pets – please.
“Gardens are a sensual experience,” Dougherty said.
“All of our senses are heightened by time spent within the Gardens. Sight, of course, but also hearing, smelling, touching, tasting. So, it will be a fun evening as well as supporting an important cultural and community asset.”
Food and drink is included in the ticket price, which will be catered by the Blue Ridge Garden Club. A cash wine bar will also be available. Floral decorations and table arrangements will be provided by the Garderettes Garden Club and the Rhododendron Garden Club will be assisting with ticket taking and ticket sales at the door.
Live entertainment for the event will be provided by the Jazz Ensemble of Watauga County Community Band.
Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Daniel Boone Native Gardens will host “Fairy Day at the Gardens” on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The free event features activities for children and families. Participants are encouraged to wear fairy costumes and bring a picnic to the gardens.
