As Holy Week services continue in the High Country, Boone United Methodist Church invites you to take a closer look at the moments leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ with its 24th annual dramatization of “The Last Supper” on Thursday, March 24.

The church’s Maundy Thursday service will commemorate the day on which Jesus celebrated Passover with His disciples, known as the Last Supper, with the dramatization by Ernest K. Emurian that has been performed in Boone for more than two decades.

The performance will explore the personal experiences of each disciple as Jesus says to them, “One of you will betray me,” in the days leading up to His crucifixion.

“Each of the disciples will be represented as they give their perspective on the Last Supper that Jesus celebrated,” said Dana Davis, director of worship and the arts at BUMC. “It will speculate about what each apostle might have been thinking to himself in those moments.”

Thursday’s service will begin at 7 p.m. with the performance, which will be followed by the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the Stripping of the Altar.

Follow your “Last Supper” experience with a self-guided exhibit of images depicting the 14 Stations of the Cross between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Good Friday. A 7 p.m. Good Friday service will focus on “Christ’s Seven Last Words.”

On Easter Sunday, BUMC will host a 6:30 a.m. sunrise service followed by its three regular worship services: contemporary praise and worship at 8:45 a.m. in the sanctuary, Crossroads contemporary service at 10:55 a.m. in the Family Life Center and the traditional service at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.

“It is important that our church is open to everyone at anytime, and we always invite people to come and visit with us at any of our services,” Davis said. “This is a particularly celebratory time of year because of everything that transpired during Holy Week from Palm Sunday through Easter. Come and celebrate the Easter season with us.”

BUMC is located at 471 New Market Blvd. in Boone. For more information about these and other services at the church, check out booneumc.org or call 828-264-6090.
