Feb. 2, 2018. Myke Holmes of Boone is acting alongside John Malkovich, Mark Wahlberg, and Ronda Rousey in the upcoming film “Mile 22.” In this action film, an American Intelligence officer alongside his tactical command unit attempt to capture a police officer with confidential information to airport that is 22 miles away. The film’s release date will be announced shortly. In a recent interview with WETC Holmes stated,“What an extraordinary way to start off 2018! This Saturday: Black Roots of American Folk Concert at the Jones House

Feb. 2, 2018. A musical showcase highlighting Black Roots of American folk music will take place this Saturday evening at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center in downtown Boone. The concert is part of the on-going series of Black & Global Roots Concerts in collaboration with Dr. Cece Conway, exploring the West African influences upon American banjo music and later Piecmont blues.

Boone’s Winter Farmers’ Market Continues Through April

Jan. 31, 2018. Now halfway through its 3rd. season, Boone’s Winter Farmers’ Market continues to provide area residents with access to fresh, local produce and handcrafted products through the winter months by offering indoor retail space to High Country farmers and producers. The market happens from 9 a.m. to noon every first and third Saturday, December through April, at the Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center, located at 252 Poplar Grove Rd. in Downtown Boone. The next upcoming market is Saturday February 3rd, 2018!

Appalachian State University’s Team Sunergy Leads in the Race to Carbon Neutrality

Jan. 29, 2018.  Team Sunergy, Appalachian State University’s lauded solar vehicle team, is offsetting its carbon footprint thanks to a donation of 58 metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions by Sterling Planet, a sustainable energy solutions provider, and General Motors. The offsets provided were created through GM’s electric vehicle (EV) ChargePoint and EverCharge charging programs, and solar generation at GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. Sterling Planet calculated and confirmed the volume.

Appalachian State University: The 2017 Momentum Dance Showcase will be Held on Jan. 27-28

Jan 26, 2018. The 2017 Momentum Dance Showcase will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 and 28 in Appalachian State University’s Varsity Gymnasium dance studio, room 208. The annual showcase, presented by Appalachian’s student dance organization Momentum, will feature 10 original works choreographed and performed by students. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults and will be sold Jan. 23-27 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in Varsity Gym and at the door one hour prior to curtain.
