A whole lot of excitement took place at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday as Appalachian State took on Miami, especially when Eric Church made it to the field.

The country music star and Caldwell County native, perhaps one of ASU’s most recognizable alumni, returned to his alma mater this weekend as an honorary captain of the football team. Decked out in blue jeans, shades and his very own team jersey, the singer/songwriter wore the number 15 and even participated in the pre-game coin toss.

Known for top hits like “Smoke a Little Smoke,” “Hell on the Heart,” “Springsteen” and more, this Carolina boy has been cranking out chart-topping tunes since he signed with Capitol Records in Nashville in 2005.

Church was right at home on the field this weekend, and his heart for Appalachian State has also led  him to create an apparel line for the university, which debuted in Boone this weekend and will be available at concerts and appearances related to his national “Holdin’ My Own” tour in 2017.
