Alair Homes and Hunger and Health Coalition Teaming Up to Help Fight Hunger

June 15, 2023 Locals and visitors are encouraged to fight hunger in the High Country by joining Alair Homes and the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce in supporting the Hunger and Health Coalition at the 2023 Alair Homes High Country Summer Concert Series. This year’s concert series serves as a food drive for the Hunger and Health Coalition’s A Simple Gesture Program. Attendees can drop off canned and other nonperishable food items at the Alair table.

Packed House in Blowing Rock Applauds Cat Perry’s Announcement to Run For Town Council

June 13, 2023 Cat Perry was the first candidate to announce her intention to run for Blowing Rock Town Council. June 8, 2023 Was May 2023 a good month for real estate in the High Country? May-be! According to the High Country Association of REALTORS, there were 183 residential sales in May of 2023. The lowest listing price was $68,000, the lowest sales price was $55,000. The highest listing price was $3,2000,000, the lowest sales price was $3,100,000. May 31, 2023 The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce celebrated the official opening of Rooster Rock Supply Company with a ribbon cutting last week.This is the second business for owners, Toby and Hailey Oliver. They also own Oliver’s on Main in the Southmarke Center. Rooster Rock Supply Company sells clothing and outdoor lifestyle supplies. Ribbon Cutting & Celebration! Blowing Rock History Walk

May 31, 2023 .On Thursday, June 1, the town of Blowing Rock will celebrate Blowing Rock History Day. At this event, Mayor Charlie Sellers, along with the Blowing Rock Historical Society (BRHS) and the Village Foundation, will host the ribbon cutting for the 21 stations of the History Walk.  “Our history walk will be a tremendous new community asset,” said BRHS president Tom O’Brien.  “It is a marvelous way to bring our history to life,” he added. The ribbon cutting is at 4 p.m. in Mayview Plaza, located at the intersection of Laurel Lane and Main Street. A celebration at the American Legion building will follow. The community is invited and there will be a free open bar and appetizers. By Kris Testori

Vice Admiral Sean Pybus Will Speak at the Blowing Rock Memorial Day Service on Saturday May 27

May 18, 2023 Admiral Pybus was an outstanding member of the United States Navy Sea, Air, and Land (SEAL) Teams and a highly effective commander of these units. The SEALs are small special operations units that accomplish critical, targeted combat and intelligence gathering missions. Much of their work is top secret but Admiral Pybus was the Assault Squadron Commander of SEAL Team Six in the very high profile rescue of the ocean liner Achille Lauro after it was hijacked by Palestinian terrorists in 1985. Admiral Pybus has served with distinction in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Despite Failed Proposal, the Majority of Blowing Rock Town Council Believe the Town Will Eventually Bury Power Lines

May 12, 2023 There was a lot of controversy before Tuesday’s vote on whether the city should bury the power lines in conjunction with the replacement of the water and sewer lines. Inventory is increasing until it’s not. Prices are falling until they don’t. DOM is increasing until it isn’t. The increasing mortgage rate environment seemed to put a damper on things over the winter, but rates wiggled, prices are still increasing in some markets, and sales and closings are still happening. A good listing priced fairly will still sell. As we head into the traditionally busy summer selling season, it will be interesting to watch where the market moves.”
