Nationally acclaimed artist William Dunlap has been featured in many prestigious collections throughout his celebrated career, but its his ties to North Carolina’s High Country that make his next show one you don’t want to miss.

This award-winning artist has made a name for himself as a distinguished painter, sculptor and arts lecturer over the past four decades. He maintains studios in Virginia, Mississippi and Florida, but he’ll soon head back to the Blue Ridge Mountains, a place that holds a part of his own history, for a show and reception at Banner Elk’s own Art Cellar Gallery.

A well-known name in the national arts scene, Dunlap remains one of the most popular returning artists at the Art Cellar. In addition to major museums and corporate and private collections across the country, he’s also been featured in the past at the Turchin Center for Visual Arts at Appalachian State University, where he lectured for nearly a decade as a professor in the 1970s.

A small collection of his paintings, which are best described as “hypothetical realism,” are on display at the Art Cellar and some are available for purchase.

The gallery invites the public to attend a special “Cocktails and Tall Tales” reception with Dunlap from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 26. This rare opportunity to chat and get to know the artist will feature some of his recent work and a book reading and signing of Short Mean Fiction.

The Art Cellar Gallery is located at 920 Shawneehaw Lane in Banner Elk.
