Napoleon Dynamite Live! Comes to the High Country this Fall BYOT (Bring Your Own Tots)

May 3, 2023 .BOONE, NC – The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country takes its film screenings to new heights with the upcoming Napoleon Dynamite: A Conversation with Jon Heder, Efren Ramirez, and Jon Gries. The September 1 event features a 7:00 p.m. full screening of the 2004 cult film classic Napoleon Dynamite followed by a lively free-form discussion with fan favorite cast members Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Efren Ramirez (Pedro Sanchez) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico). The discussion will be moderated by Boone Chamber of Commerce President, David Jackson, and will include insider stories, favorite quotes, and an audience Q & A. Reserved seats start at $35. A limited number of $90 VIP tickets are available which include preferred seating, a signed poster and pre-show meet and greet with the actors.

April 13, 2023 BOONE, NC – April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country is celebrating with its inaugural Night of Jazz concert slated for Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. The collaborative concert event will feature jazz musicians from noteworthy local jazz groups: the Watauga High School Jazz Band, Watauga Community Bands Swing Set Jazz and Appalachian State University’s Jazz Ensembles I and II .Jazz Appreciation Month, fondly known as JAM, was created by the National Museum of American History in Washington D.C. to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz for the entire month of April. Intended to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz, the Appalachian Theatre’s Night of Jazz event provides an opportunity for both artists and audiences of all ages to experience and enjoy an evening of jazz.

April 13, 2023 BOONE, NC – The 2023 International Fly Fishing Film Festival, sponsored by Boone’s Fly Shop, is coming to the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country on Friday, April 21. Featuring
the very best in today’s fly-fishing films, the screening includes 10 short and feature-length films. Tickets are priced at $10. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the film starts at 7:30 p.m. with a total running time of two hours.

April 10, 2023 BOONE, NC— Einstein said, “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious”. In Joshua Lozoff: Life is Magic, former Hollywood actor Joshua Lozoff embraces that theory, bringing his version of magic, mind-reading and mystery to Boone’s Appalachian Theatre on Thursday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.

April 5, 2023 BOONE, NC – The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country features a Fantasy Favorites Film Series throughout the month of April at the historic venue on King Street in downtown Boone, NC. Selected from audience input and featuring some of the best mystical, magical and fantastic titles, the film series occurs on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. with a Saturday family-friendly feature at 2 p.m. Titles include “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” which will delight audiences on April 4, “Labyrinth” on April 11, the 1981 version of “Clash of the Titans” on April 17 and “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” on April 25.

March 20, 2023 BOONE, NC – The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country continues its LIVE @ the APP concerts at the historic venue on King Street in downtown Boone, NC with Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road headlining its March 24 concert. The event will also feature Highland Reverie as an opener starting at 7:30 p.m. Reserved tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, plus tax & fees.

March 20, 2023 The Appalachian Theatre invites music lovers of all ages to their monthly Cabaret Night on Saturday, March 25 from 8-11 p.m. The venue’s upstairs Community Room is transformed into an upscale karaoke cabaret providing an opportunity for the High Country community to sing their favorite songs from a wide variety of musical eras and genres or simply enjoy the performances of friends, family and neighbors.

March 20, 2023 BOONE, NC – As the final installment in this season’s pilot Local Night @AppTheatre series, co-presented with Joe Shannon’s Mountain Home Music, The King Bees will bring their blues and roots music to the Doc Watson Stage for Americana Music on Thursday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the historic Appalachian Theatre located on King Street in Boone, NC. They’ll be introduced by a set performed by student musicians from Boone J.A.M. Reserved tickets for this concert are $10 for adults and $7 for students.

March 16, 2023. High Country Press Publications is proud to announce a new partnership with Appalachian Theatre of the High Country with the launch of High Country at the Movies (HCATM). HCATM is an online movie review forum through which the community can interact and share thoughts on classic and new cinema.

March 6, 2023 BOONE, NC – In the final month of the Local Night @AppTheatre series, Brooks Forsyth with opening act, Will Easter, will perform on the Doc Watson State for Americana Music at the historic Appalachian Theatre of the High Country on Thursday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. Reserved tickets are priced at $10 for
adults and $7 for students, plus taxes and fees.

February 20, 2023 BOONE, NC – Fresh off their recent performance at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, the Appalachian State University Department of Theatre and Dance (T&D) is proud to announce their spring 2023 season. Five separate productions will showcase the talents of students, staff, and faculty — both onstage and behind the scenes — with a focus on new works and regional premieres with a variety of playwrights from Asia to America to Great Britain.

February 15, 2023 BOONE, NC – Following up on successful screenings of both “Dirty Dancing,” and “The Notebook,” the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country closes out its February Romantic Comedy Film Series with the modern “Rom-Com” classic “Pretty Woman.” A third of a century after its initial release, the movie still holds the box office record for ticket sales in its genre. The film will be screened at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21 and is two hours in duration with a general admission ticket price of only $6 per person.

February 14, 2023 BOONE, NC – The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country invites audiences of all ages to “Be Our Guest” at family-friendly prices for a special Saturday afternoon screening of the beloved Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast.” The Academy Award-winning movie has been hailed by Time magazine as the greatest film of the Disney Renaissance and one of the greatest animated films of all time.

February 13, 2023 BOONE, NC – The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country is honoring Black History Month with the debut screenings of two popular, award-winning films at its landmark venue on King Street in downtown Boone, NC. The 2019 biographical film “Harriet” about abolitionist Harriet Tubman will be shown on Thursday, February 16 followed by the 2018 Marvel superhero film Black Panther on Friday, February 17. Each screening begins promptly at 7 p.m. and runs approximately two hours and ten minutes in duration with a general admission ticket price of only $6 per person.

February 8, 2023 BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country announces that the Boone Docs Film Festival jury has selected 12 thought-provoking and compelling documentary shorts reflecting on and celebrating life in the Appalachian region. The festival will be held at the historic venue in Boone, N.C. from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023. In addition to the films being screened, the event also includes Q&A with filmmakers, plus the announcement of the “Jury’s Choice” and “Audience Choice” award winners.

February 6, 2023 BOONE, NC — The Blue Ridge Community Theatre showcases the humorous aspects of modern love with the Off-Broadway smash musical comedy, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, book and lyrics by Joe Dipietro, and music by Jimmy Roberts. This adult production will be presented at the historic Appalachian Theatre in the upstairs Community Room on February 10 at 7 p.m., February 11 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and February 12 at 2 p.m.

February 6, 2023 BOONE, NC – The Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University is one of only four programs in the entire southeastern United States chosen to participate in the regional Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). This prestigious national theatre program involves more than 18,000 students from across the nation with the goal to recognize and celebrate the work done at the college theatre level.

February 1, 2023 BOONE, NC – The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day the entire month of February with a Classic Romantic Comedy Film Series of movies suggested by patrons and the public in a recent online audience survey. February 2023 will showcase favorite “Rom-Coms” with three film screenings scheduled at 7 p.m. on the first three Tuesdays of the month. “Dirty Dancing” will lead off the series on February 7, followed by “The Notebook” on February 14, and concluding with “Pretty Woman” on February 21.

January 24, 2023 BOONE, NC – The month of January comes to a cinematic close at the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country with a modern version of a much-loved classic novel that has enthralled readers for over two centuries: “Pride & Prejudice.”
App Theatre Executive Director, Suzanne Livesay, proposed the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austin’s 1813 romantic drama as the final movie on the eclectic “Staff Pics” series. It will be screened at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31 at the historic theatre on King Street in downtown Boone. The movie runs just over two hours at 127 minutes in duration.

January 23, 2023 BOONE, NC – In his much-anticipated Appalachian Theatre debut, three-time Grammy and five-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) “Fiddle Player of the Year” JASON CARTER takes to the Doc Watson Stage for Americana Music at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023. Jason Carter & Friends: Lowdown Hoedown Tour is the next in-person concert in the “LIVE @AppTheatre” series taking place over the winter months of January, February, and March 2023 at the venerable landmark on King Street in downtown Boone. Reserved seating admission is only $20 per person, plus fees and tax.

January 18, 2023 BOONE, NC – The popular Disney animated musical classic “Frozen” will be screened at the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country on a special, family-friendly date and time: 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023. A beloved film for all ages, it was a unanimous “Staff Pick” for this month’s classic movie series at the venerable landmark of King Street in Boone. “Frozen” is a 2013 computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures.

January 10, 2023 BOONE, NC – “Local Night @AppTheatre” is the newest initiative at the historic landmark on King Street in Boone. The series is specifically designed to showcase the talents of High Country musicians for whom the venue was restored and renovated. First up in concert are the popular duo of Trevor McKenzie and Jackson Cunningham, who will take to the Doc Watson Stage at the Appalachian Theatre at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 12th.

January 3, 2023 BOONE, NC – At the grand re-opening of the Appalachian Theatre in 2019, American folk music
legend and Grammy Award-winner John McEuen raved about the venue’s renovations and
restoration, especially the acoustics. “You can hear what you’re playing onstage and in the
audience. It’s a good, live room, and perfect for live music.”
