Watauga Farm Bureau to Host Dr. Temple Grandin at App Theater, July 29

June 17, 2024 Dr. Temple Grandin, prominent speaker, and author on autism, will be in Boone as part of the 2024 Carolina Meat Conference. Watauga County Farm Bureau is sponsoring “An Evening with Temple Grandin” at 6:30pm on Monday, July 29, at the Appalachian Theater of the High Country. Dr. Grandin will introduce the film about her life, Temple Grandin, starring Claire Danes, and be available to sign copies of her books following the screening. The film, called riveting by Common Sense Media and well-reviewed across the country when released in 2010, chronicles the life of Temple from the age of three through her introduction to the greater autism community that would provide both a personal and scientifically-informed perspective on living with autism

3rd Annual Boonerang Music & Arts Festival to be Held June 14–15 in Downtown Boone

June 3, 2024 “The third annual Boonerang Music & Arts Festival will be held in downtown Boone the weekend of Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15. Presented by the Town of Boone and supporting partners, the free street festival and community homecoming event features performances and activities on multiple stages, as well as local food and drinks, a vendors market, silent disco, dance and cultural demonstrations, and kids’ activities. Boonerang especially emphasizes artists with a connection to Boone and the High Country. Boone Junior Appalachian Musicians Spring Recital at the Appalachian Theatre on May 14th

May 7, 2024 Boone Junior Appalachian Musicians (Boone JAM) is thrilled to announce its Spring Semester Recital, scheduled for Tuesday, May 14th, at the historic Appalachian Theatre in downtown Boone. Boone JAM is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich musical heritage of Appalachia among the youth of the region through group music lessons. “Carrie: The Musical” Takes to the Valborg Stage April 24 – 28: Join us for a Night of Drama, Killer Vocals, and a Bloody Good Time

April 10, 2024 The Appalachian State University Department of Theatre and Dance proudly presents “Carrie: The Musical,” based on the Stephen King novel and Brian De Palma directed film of the same name, with music by Michael Gore, lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and book by Lawrence D. Cohen. The cast is comprised of 20 Appalachian students spanning across all grade levels. In addition to the cast, there are several undergraduates working on the technical and design teams under the mentorship of Theatre and Dance faculty and staff members.

Eleemosynary: Blue Ridge Community Theatre Brings Three-Woman Play to Life March 22-24

The word may be uncommon, but that’s OK because Blue Ridge Community Theatre is bringing it to life, presenting Eleemosynary, March 22-24 at Appalachian Theatre in downtown Boone.  Written by Lee Blessing in 1985, Eleemosynary “examines the very delicate relationship of three women: a grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to exert her independence through strong willed eccentric behavior, Artie, her daughter, who has run from her overpowering mother, and Echo, Artie’s daughter, who is incredibly smart and equally sensitive.”

The Embers featuring Craig Woolard bring beach vibes to 3,333 ft

May 18, 2023 BOONE, NC – Bringing their joyful Carolina beach music to the mountains, The Embers featuring Craig Woolard are slated to make their debut at the Appalachian Theatre on Wednesday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m.The Embers roots go back to 1958 when a couple of enterprising high school boys in Raleigh, North Carolina answered the Soviet challenge of Sputnik by forming a band called The Satellites. They played for school dances and parties, and on a good night could pocket as much as $60 for their efforts. The group’s name soon changed to The Embers, but they continued to play the timeless Rhythm and Blues music which is as popular now as it was back in the late 50s and early 60s.
